Spring Scholarships for Indian Students

If you plan to study abroad, you probably know that the majority of scholarships for the following year have deadlines in December or January.

Some scholarships have deadlines as early as November. However, there are scholarships with deadlines in spring. Please keep in mind that some of them require you to be already admitted to the university. So, if you’ve missed all the deadlines or need some additional funding for your studies abroad, you have to check out the scholarships below.  


Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship

Description: The Foundation assists students with tuition fees and living expenses. Half of the scholarship amount is considered a loan, which must be reimbursed with an annual service charge of 5%. The application cycle is open from the 1st of January each year. One can get an application form at AKF offices or Aga Khan Education Services / Boards in their countries of current residence. For the 2022-23 application cycle, the Foundation will not accept applications from students planning to attend universities in the UK, Germany, Sweden, Austria, Denmark, the Netherlands, Italy, Norway, and Ireland. 

Eligibility: Nationals of Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Madagascar, and Mozambique. The Foundation gives priority to those applying for master's programs. Preference is given to students under 30 years of age.

Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation

Description: Scholarships are granted to bright young Indian students to be enrolled in top American, European, and UK institutions for full-time master’s, MPhil, or doctorate programs. The Foundation has joint scholarships with Imperial College London, Royal College of Art (RCA), the University of Cambridge via the Cambridge Trust, and Sciences Po in Paris. The scholarship will cover tuition, living expenses, healthcare, and one-way airfare. The maximum funding given by the Foundation is $100,000. 

Eligibility: All Indian citizens who have been continuously resident in India for the past six months before the time of application

Application deadline: 30 March 2022


GREAT Scholarships India

Description: For the 2022-23 academic year, there are 20 postgraduate scholarships available from UK universities across a variety of subjects for students from India. Each scholarship is worth a minimum of £10,000 ($13,500) towards tuition fees for a one-year postgraduate course.

Eligibility: Citizens of India with an undergraduate degree

Application deadline: April or May 2022, depending on a university

Oxford and Cambridge Society of India (OCSI) Scholarships 

Description: Society of India offers scholarships for admission to the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge. Generally available for any subject/course/field of study at the two universities. Some scholarships may be limited to specific courses or fields of study.

Eligibility: Citizens of India under 30

Application deadline: 31 May 2022

Scotland’s Saltire Scholarships

Description: The program offers up to 50 awards, each worth £8,000 ($10,850), towards tuition fees for any one year of full-time study in a master’s program at any of Scotland’s higher education institutions. 

Eligibility: Citizens of the following countries: Canada, China (including Hong Kong), India, Japan, Pakistan, and the USA 

Application deadline: 28 May 2022

University of Sheffield Scholarships

Description: The university offers numerous funding opportunities in 2022, including 75 International Undergraduate Merit Scholarships worth 50% of the tuition fee, International Undergraduate Scholarships, 125 International Postgraduate Merit Scholarships worth 25% of tuition fee, and International Postgraduate Scholarships.

Eligibility: Applicants offered to study at the university 

Application deadline: April or May 2022, depending on a scholarship


Graduate Fellowships and Awards of University of Berkeley Graduate Division

Description: Diversity & Community Fellows Program, the Jim Fahey Safe Homes for Women Fellowship, Art Rosenfeld Award for Energy Efficiency, and many others are offered at the Berkeley Graduate Division. They include a stipend that differs in size depending on a program. 

Eligibility: All graduate and professional school students. Students should be registered for the academic year for which their duties will occur, and should remain in good academic standing. Other requirements differ from program to program.

Application deadline: March or April 2022, depending on a program 

Fulbright Foreign Student Program

Description: The most famous scholarship program operates in more than 160 countries. Eligibility and selection criteria for this program vary greatly by nation. For example, in India, it is administered by the United States – India Educational Foundation (USIEF). Fulbright-Nehru Master’s Fellowships are designed for outstanding Indians to pursue a master’s degree program. For doctorates and mid-career professionals, there are the Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral Research Fellowships, Fulbright-Kalam Climate Fellowship, the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program, the English Teaching Assistant (ETA), the Scholar-in-Residence (S-I-R) Program, and others.

Eligibility: citizens of participating countries with a bachelor degree and work experience who do not hold any degree from a US university

Application deadline: 1st of June in India


Description: These are renewable scholarships that cover a minimum of 50% tuition to international undergraduates at selected US colleges and universities. Applicants are required to either answer a short essay question or present a multimedia project about their ideas for applying their leadership skills on their future campuses. 

Eligibility: First-year international applicant in any field of study/major to a participating college or university

Application deadline: Institution Deadlines (typically in Spring or Summer 2022) - Students should complete a #YouAreWelcomeHere scholarship application for each selected institution by the institutions’ deadline, including either an essay or multimedia submission explaining how they will apply their leadership skills in the campus community.   


Chinese Government Scholarship Programs 

Description: Chinese Government Scholarships aim to attract international students into the country. Plenty of programs are offered under this umbrella term, including Bilateral Program, Chinese University Program, Great Wall Program, and many others. The Chinese University Program is, perhaps, the most well-known one. It aims to recruit outstanding students from all over the world to undertake degree studies on all levels of education in 289 eligible Chinese universities. A full scholarship covers tuition, accommodation, stipend, and health insurance. 

Eligibility: Non-Chinese citizens who are mentally and physically healthy

Application deadline: early April (you have to be already admitted to a university by then)


Orange Tulip Scholarships

Description: These scholarships offer talented students to reduce or completely waive the tuition fees and even, in some cases, to cover other expenses such as visa and residence permit costs, health insurance, and liability insurance. The scholarships are managed and promoted by the Nesos (Netherlands Education Support Offices).

Eligibility: Students coming from Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, or Vietnam, with no degrees from a Dutch education institution

Application deadline: The application deadline for all Orange Tulip Scholarship Programmes through your NESO office is 28 February 2022. It is recommended that you submit your application in early February 2022 at the latest so that the admissions office has enough time to review your application and inform you if it is incomplete.


Charpak Scholarship 

Description: This scholarship is designed for one to two years of studies in France at the master’s degree level for all streams and fields of study. It includes a monthly living allowance and tuition fee waiver up to €5,000 ($5,700), assistance to find affordable student accommodation, and a student visa fee waiver. 

Eligibility: The applicant must be an Indian national residing in India, be 30 years old maximum at the time of application, be a student currently enrolled/have studied at an Indian institution of higher education or a young professional employed in a company for a maximum of 3 years at the time of application.

UNSW Scholarships for International Students

Description: UNSW offers a wide range of scholarships and awards to support international undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students commencing full-time study at UNSW. Some scholarships will cover a full or partial tuition fee payment, while others provide a stipend to assist with the costs associated with your studies. 

Eligibility: International students at UNSW

Application deadline: 31 March 2022

India Global Leaders Scholarship 

Description: This is a scholarship for high-achieving students from India to further their studies in UQ’s Faculty of Business, Economics, and Law. It covers 50% of the tuition fee. Selection criteria include your academic record and achievements, as well as your personal and career goals.

Eligibility: Citizens of India who have been admitted to the University of Queensland and received a letter of offer to study a business, economics, or law program there
